Summer 2012 Session 1 student presentations

The final project for the class was a 900-word critical review of a book, film, or other cultural work. Students examined how one key issue was presented in that work. This was followed up by a presentation to the class of the key elements of their review, supplemented by slides. Selected presentations can be viewed here.

Jiawei Jiang: Controversies in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Explores the relationship between Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel and the abolition movement.

Anna Ruan: Child abuse as a theme in Bastard Out of Carolina film.

Kevin Wu: Sexism as a theme in The Color Purple film.
